A UN report states

The world generated a record 53.6 million tons of electronic garbage in 2019, equivalent to 350 large cruise ships.

According to the survey, the amount of e-waste—discarded items with a battery or plug—has increased by 21% over the previous five years. It is expected to reach 74 million tons by 2030, nearly doubling the amount of electronic garbage in just 16 years.

Therefore, e-waste is the fastest-growing home waste source in the world, driven mainly by rising rates of electric and electronic equipment consumption, short product life cycles, and limited repair choices.

The research stated that "e-waste is a health and environmental hazard, containing hazardous additives or substances like mercury, which damages the human brain and coordination system.
